Arching back accompanied with crying may mean that your baby is having reflux. It is also common for babies to arch their backs to indicate that they have had enough to drink and want to move away from the breast. You can try changing the position of your baby to help him/her get into a more comfortable position when he/she arches his/her back. Hope this helps! :)

When your 6 month old baby is learning to use a cup, giving him a few sips of water a couple of times a day( no more than 60 ml) is fine and fun. Once baby starts solids, you might want to give him a few more sips of expressed milk or water with his solids. Some babies need this to prevent constipation.

By 6 months, the amount at each feeding should have increased to 6 or 8 oz but the frequency he or she needs would have dropped to 4 or 5 times a day. As for water, you can give your 6 month old baby sips of water whenever he or she is thirsty.
