Thalassaemia
Hello, I’m going to be mummy to be. Would like to ask regarding thalassaemia blood test. The doctor requested for my husband to take this test. What does it mean? Anyway for my first check up I had already taken blood test.

If your doctor asked for it, it probably means you’re a carrier. Testing your husband is important to predict the chance of your baby being a carrier or having thalassaemia major, which has major implications on baby’s life. If your husband is not a carrier, your baby will definitely not have the condition, so don’t worry and just have your husband tested first:)

Thalassaemia is a genetic blood disorder. It’s just a routine check to see if both parents has it.
