is it okay to bottle feed instead of breastfeeding?

im a ftm and my newborn’s almost a month old. ive tried breastfeeding during the first few weeks but stopped due to poor latch (due to inverted/flat nipple) that caused trauma to my nipples. im currently bottle feeding with BM and i cant help but feel guilty and super lost about not breastfeeding my LO. ive thought about seeing a lactation consultant but just didnt feel like it’s necessary. theres also concerns about going out and having to pump, making sure to feed just on time so the milk doesnt go to waste and stuff like that. #advicepls

I’m a ftm and I had my fair share of challenges feeding my pre-term newborn last year. I would suggest seeing a lactation consultant, it was the best decision I made and it was worth every $ spent! There are nipple shields you can use. Even when it comes to pumping it’s so important to get the right size for the flanges. The standard flanges that come with the pump rarely fits. A lactation consultant can help with that. If breastfeeding your baby is what you really want, give it another try! Otherwise, formula is perfectly fine. But most importantly of course is your mental health - happy mama, healthy baby!

You do you mummy! Theres nothing wrong with bottle feeding your baby. Same as feeding baby with FM instead of BM. As long as baby gets fed, baby is happy! Mental health is more important. Its not like you never tried to breastfeed. Everybody’s journey is different. I have lots of friend who’s exclusively pumping and bottle feed their baby and their baby turns out fine, happy as ever. Maybe you can pump before going out, put it in a bottle, itll last 4 hours. Else i thinj you can use a cooler bag and put expressed milk in with reusable ice packs, itll last 24hrs in the bag.

I’m exclusively pumping and bottle feeding too! Latching is too tiring and time consuming. Bottle feed is easier in terms of arrangements and another caregiver can help with the feeding. My elder kid was also bottle fed and she grew up well. Now doing the same for my NB. Don’t stress out yourself, your mental well-being is equally important!

It's totally fine! what's impt is a happy mummy which equals to happy baby. my considerations for breastfeeding is to minimise washing but I will also soon transit to bottle feeding when baby turns 3-4 months as I want to start going out and back to work.

I only produce 20ml per pump/per breast, didn’t managed to pump more due to my first confinement lady, she didn’t encourage me to pump/latch. I also feel guilty all the time as my LO drinks 140ml per feed. But dun let this stress u out

It's perfectly fine to bottle feed. The arrangement needs to work for both you and your baby. Both of you are important. If you find it very challenging to breastfeed, just bottle feed. There is nothing wrong at all.

is OK, it's still breastmilk I personally preferred bottle feed cause I know how much baby is drinking.
