Hi Elton, I do agree with what you said there, that early access to tech does impact the kids' capabilities of handling real life problems. There was a time when both my husband and I were relying heavily on gadgets, and it was impacting our kids too. We made a conscious decision to switch off as much as possible. Here are some things we did that I think could help with your kids as well: 1. We barely watch any television or screen, and rely more on books and toys to pass the time. My kids also participate in a lot of outdoor and unstructured play. 2. We make sure that at least one meal of the day is together, where we talk about our day and discuss any problems or worries we may be facing. It's a great way to show kids what types of problems you can face and how to tackle them. 3. Here's a very basic example again. Instead of only doing online searches, my 9 year old still refers to physical books and dictionaries for her projects and assignments. It is a good way to deal with situations when she may not have access to gadgets, but can still figure out how to work with what she has.
I think the problem is in letting kids consume technology without showing them how to create with technology. I am happy to let my son spend an hour making a game on Scratch. Less happy if he spends that hour playing a game someone else has created. There must be limits to screen time, even if the child is building and creating with technology. Neeta gave a couple of good suggestions - getting the child to play outdoors, letting him/her have access to physical books etc. I am a believer of learning through touch and play.

Yeah. But then again kids learn super fast and they will get plugged in very soon too. It’s more the emotional angle that is lacking for a lot of our young ones and teens
