As per the Canadian Dental Association, the use of fluoride-based toothpaste to babies should depend on the advise of the his/her dentist. It is usually recommended if the toddler is at risk of developing tooth decay at a young age. However, dentists constantly remind parents to brush the toddler's teeth using minimal amount of fluoride toothpaste only, preferably with the size of a rice grain. The ingredient decreases the risk of mild discoloration and tooth decay, based also from studies of the American Dental Association. Brushing with a minimal amount does not allow the toddler to get fluorosis or the condition caused by ingesting fluoride toothpaste. Hence, if your baby is not prone to decay risks, it is advisable to use only a toothbruah moistened by water. Yes! It's actually better for kid's toothpaste to contain fluouride. Maximum of 1000 ppm fluoride toothpast would be safe.
