Alcohol during pregnancy

I recently read an article whereby a Mum said she drank the odd glass of wine during all of her five pregnancies. My wife would never even take a sip of alcohol during pregnancy, due to the risk. What do Mums here think? Is even a small amount of alcohol safe during pregnancy?

Excessive alcohol definitely causes serious effects on the foetus. Recent studies show that a bit of alcohol will not have serious effects; however, it is not known exactly how much is safe. The safest choice is still not drinking alcohol.
