How do you encourage your tweens to do things on their own?

I don't have tweens yet, but as early as now I teach my toddlers to do things on their own gradually. Baby steps. I want to see them grow as independent individuals and not depend on me or other people all the time. I acknowledge them every time they do good, be it be a very simple task. I know it will help boost their confidence.
