A baby’s umbilical cord will gradually drop off within a week. In the meantime, keep it clean and dry at all times. Cleaning it simply involve dampening a cotton wool or bud with cooled boiled water to clean the cord. Clean in an upwards motion from the base and changing to a new clean piece after each bath or when it is wet. I used a alcohol wipe once a day just to dry it out. You don't want to dry it out to fast tho so don't do it to much.

Clean with Surgical spirits everytime you change baby and after bath

Clean it with a damp cotton wool or bud and keep it dry.
