My gyna asked me not to gain weight/eat since 12 weeks pregnant.

Help! Hi Mummies. I'm currently in 21 weeks pregnancy, having my 3rd baby. I'm a plus size, in my early 40s and my first 2 children were born above 3 kg and healthy. I had GDM for my previous 2 pregnancies but cleared after delivery. Every checkup with my gynae, she will always remind me not to gain weight. Being pregnant, I will gain weight eventho I did walking, eating healthy, etc... I'm a SAHM with no helper and will walk to send and fetch my older children to their pr schools to and from home as well as other home activities/errands. Sometimes, my gynae will say don't eat and give advices like drinking all no sugar, which I followed. No fruits coz fruits have sugar but can drink coffee black, which I didn't take coz I believe coffee black is high in caffeine as compared to teas. So far, for every ultrasound checkup, my baby is doing well and healthy, just my weight. I will be taking the glucose test next week, similar to my previous pregnancies. When I ask what other exercise is safe and effective for loosing weight at pregnancy, I was advised to do just walking, which is my daily routine. Sometimes, I feel a bit sad, coz all the food that we eat contains a certain amount of sugar. If I can't snack on fruits when I have hunger pangs, I don't know what to eat. I cook for my family but sometimes feel sad remembering "no food" or "cannot gain weight". I've always thought if there is no weight gain, it's not a good sign for baby and mummy? I'm so confused and stressed at times. Any advice, please? Sorry for the lengthy post. Just need to pour it out 😩

Hi Mummy! first of all, congrats on your 3rd! I am not sure if your doctor is a little too cautious.... there will surely be a need to eat in pregnancy.... and fruits are so important in everyone's diet! this is my experience with low / Zero GI (glycemic index) diet as my family member has diabetes. you can eat fruits, just make sure to eat low sugar fruits. try guava, blueberries, strawberries, plum, kiwi, tomatoes. also for meals, opt for low GI alternatives like brown rice, quinoa. eat lots of protein and veges, these are healthy and will help you feel fuller for long as compared to rice/noodles. if you want to eat snacks, search up "keto snacks". keto is a diet that is low in carbs and low in sugar. lots of recipes and products available in the market these days that are zero or low GI! I personally like to buy salted popcorn that pops in the microwave for a healthy snack with my diabetic family member. we eat a lot of cucumber and carrot sticks too with guacamole (avocado with salt and pepper. search avocado weight loss on google, even though it is high fat, it actually helps maintain weight!) we also buy Zero GI sweetener (try ZestyLeaf Monk Fruit Sweetner) as an alternative to sugar as it doesnt spike glucose level. as for exercise, I follow this youtuber who specialises in prenatal workouts, she has tons of cardio exercises that are 30mins or less if you want to try! she has beginner friendly options or advanced options if you're up for it https://youtube.com/@PregnancyandPostpartumTV?feature=shared all the best for your pregnancy! ❤️

Hi Mummy. Thank you so much for your advice. I'm currently in my 29th weeks pregnancy, failed my GDM, as per my first 2 pregnancies and gained a bit of weight eventho I did tried to follow a diet plan of wholemeal bread, low fat milk, etc. I'm a SAHM so I walked a lot when sending and fetching my 2 schooling children during schooling period. During my last checkup, my gynae said my glucose test (prick finger) was ok but why gained weight, and so I failed "her" test. She have asked me to continue with the glucose test, and told us to go to the park to exercise. I was told.to only gain 1 kg next appointment (with was about a month). My next appointment will be tmr... So stressful... But I'm still keeping it going ... Thank you for sharing, Mummy. Much love 💕

Hi mummy, just to share my personal experience. I was worried i might gain alot of weight throughout my pregnancy. I am a plus size too. So what i did was, breakfast eat 2 slices of low gi bread, pair it with scrambled eggs/boiled eggs with no sugar soy milk. Milk usually contains sugar thts why i opted out. Lunch i will eat fist size rice with abt 2 plates size of vegetables + protein. Rice, take a few mouthful. The vegs and proteins should last u till dinner. Dinner just pan seared salmon or chicken breast with steamed vegs of ur choice. Im proud to say i did not gain any weight and blood sugar was always on the range. If u wan u can try this! Oh and MOST impt, aim for at least 2l of water. Nothings helps, only water trust me.

Me too! I drink 2 litre of plain water everyday… !

Hello mommy, think your gynae is trying to make miracle - for you to not have GD in this pregnancy compared to previous. I feel as long as you have cravings, just eat what you crave because that’s what the baby needs. Did they mention your baby is overweight or what? My gynae on the other hand told me it’s normal to have sweet urine during pregnancy, no diet constraints. I am the one who told myself to control my diet, don’t eat junk food until I pass my glucose test lol

Hi Mummies. Thank you so much for your advice and words of encouragement. My glucose test will be held this coming Tuesday and my gynae is a private senior gynae which also delivered my 2nd child. I suppose I can have some cheat days, hehe. Sometimes too hungry and don't know what can be eaten. I've also drank water, thanks to the humid weather, too. For my past two pregnancies, I failed the glucose test but GDM cleared after delivery. So far, my gynae said baby is bigger than the standard age, which goes the same for my previous 2 children. They were all born above 3kg and healthy. Thank you for your replies, I really appreciate it. Much love ❤️

Hi mummy! Gynae shld have their concern, coz my my sis took insulin jabs everyday during her pregnancy which is not a happy thing during pregnancy. But do give urself some cheat days, dun let this pregnancy makes u feel like u have no happy moments

u can snack on nuts or fruits with low sugar content like apples, dragonfruits, guava
