Rabies is 99.99% fatal but it also preventable

During the FAMhealthy session last March 23, 2021, Dr. Jerome mentioned that rabies is 99.99% fatal but it is also preventable. We have vaccines available called pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP). Consult with your physician if you’re exposed to the virus. Also, we have option if we want to get the PrEP especially if we’re in the high risk area. If ever you’re exposed to the virus/bitten by rabid animal, you need to immediately wash the wound/scratch with soap and running water for 10-15 mins. No need to put garlic to treat dog bites as it can cause irritation as well.
