My daughter, 5 years old, was found to have astig and had to wear spectacles. Was it a cause of poor eye care or it was hereditary? As both my husband and I have astig.

According to the SNEC website, the cause of astigmatism is usually unknown, but it is usually present from birth. It was mentioned that (though rare) it could be cause by vigorously rubbing of the eye or by cornea diseases such as keratoconus. Spectacles would help correct astigmatism. Contacts and lasik are other options. For more information, you can refer to this article: www.snec.com.sg/eye-conditions-and-treatments/common-eye-conditions-and-procedures/Pages/astigmatism.aspx
