Bride-To-Be Faints And Dies Within 24 Hours After Alleged Misdiagnosis At SGH

A bride-to-be died within 24 hours of being admitted into SGH after being incorrectly diagnosed with acute tonsillitis. 41-year-old, Wang Yanting, was planning to get married in November 2015. However, she was rushed into hospital in August that year after fainting in a carpark. Ms Wang was reported to have trouble breathing and swallowing her saliva. Wang Fuyao, the bride's brother, claimed that a doctor at SGH gave a diagnosis of acute tonsillitis that day. However, at 7am on August 20, SGH called Fuyao to say his sister's condition was critical and she was transferred to ICU. She passed away in the afternoon. Doctors confirmed her death was due to acute epiglottitis, which is an inflammation of the flap that covers the trachea (windpipe). It is usually caused by bacterial infection. Fuyao accused SGH of negligence in not doing their best to provide appropriate treatment in a timely manner to prevent his sister's death. SGH has denied all of his allegations.
