At what age should I start to bring my child to visit the dentist?

My doctor recommended that my older daughter then to see the dentist 6 months after the 1st tooth has sprouted and subsequently every 6 months just to check on the progress and to keep it clean. However, in Singapore, students in primary and secondary school have yearly visits to the dentist so that was sufficient (in my opinion). If there was a problem that my kid complains of pain or if I notice something wrong, I would call the school dental up and arrange an appointment. If they may need to go for treatments or braces, the school dental can do a referral.
