Varicose veins during pregnancy are generally harmless but can be a nuisance and a source of discomfort. Women can get distended veins in their legs and genital area, which can be very uncomfortable. A lot of women also have piles (distended veins in the anal area). If you have varicose veins, keep a lookout for one-sided calf/leg swelling as it may be a sign that you have a blood clot, which can be fatal.
