Anyone can share secret on how toddlers can let go of the pacifier? ?

Lol nice tactic. My lo is 2.5 yrs. Sometimes when hes already asleep, we will pull out the pacifier. Sometimes he can sleep well without but there are times when he will wake up and find his pacifier and will cry if he cant find it.
