In my experience, patients with hyperthyroidism who are on birth control are often prescribed progestin-only pills or a low-dose combined pill, as these are less likely to impact thyroid hormone levels compared to high-dose estrogen pills. Estrogen can increase thyroid-binding globulin (TBG), which could alter the levels of free thyroid hormones in the body, so we need to be careful in selecting the right contraceptive.
