Any one has volunteered in orphanages ? Any idea about the formalities here?
There are many ways you can volunteer in orphanages. When I was in JC, I used to tutor some kids at Darul Ma'wa and join them in dinner and we'll play/interact after. I even went on an overseas community trip with some of the older kids in the home. We went to an orphanage in Medan, Indonesia to construct a walkway for their courtyard. Since I went through the volunteering process with my junior college, I pretty much went along my duties as a student and there was no worries about formalities because my teachers dealt with that and would inform us if anything important was needed. But I remember while we were in Indonesia, we were told not to give the kids any money -- if we wanted to donate, we should go through the administrator of the orphanage.

I used to volunteer at Pertapis and I would address the adults there as "Kak" (big sister in malay) unless they had introduced themselves with a salutation. The kids there call me "Kakak" or "Kak" and I honestly much prefer it that way because it's easier to gel with the kids that way and makes talking much more comfortable.
