Nutrients

Pregnancy

Canned foods usually have additives and other preservatives included during the production process. Excessive intake is not good for health while the overall nutritional value of canned food is low. It is advised for pregnant mummies to stick to fresh foods instead.

Postpartum

During the canning process of food, most water-soluble vitamins are lost. This means the resulting canned food has low nutritional value. Also, many canned foods (especially fruits) have lots of sugar added, as well as preservatives. It's best to reduce canned food during the postnatal period and instead eat fresh foods.

Breastfeeding

When compared to fresh food, the nutritional value of canned food is much less. This means it's not beneficial to your health or that of your baby. Canned food may also contain a lot of sugar, which is bad for health in general.

Baby

Canned food is not suitable for babies under the age of 11 months.
