How do I deal with separation anxiety?

yes, more than your baby, it is you who will have to first be strong and make sure you are handling separation anxiety the right way. one thing that really worked for me while handling both my babies was to keep goodbyes really really short. sometimes, i wouldn't even say bye and just quietly sneak away. that way, even as your baby blends in to the new atmosphere, he or she will not really see you going away, and it will be easier to cope. also, i try to keep daddy and mummy time for the baby. so while i am the primary caregiver for my kids, i make sure i go out on my own and let daddy be with the kids. as a result, it is easier for them to learn and cope when mommy isn't around.

How do we encourage kids that they must go to their classroom alone and without their nanny or mom?

Sa una kilangan mo muna samahan at encourage na mas masaya sa loob ng room with the teacher at thier classmates.

I am allowed to accompany my LO on her first three day of playgroup. I had sort of brought her to her class a few times before she started school officially. She seemed to be comfortable with the teachers and her classmates but that was probably because I was around. What should I do during these first three day to help her to transit into her school? I am also worried as my LO has not learned to talk.

If you are there to observe, encourage your girl to be active in the class activities. i would sit aside to observe.

Do I have to accompany my son on his first week of school? Would that be necessary? He's really close to me and I'm kinda afraid he will distracted to me and misbehave instead of mingling and following the class.

most schools have different policies. while some encourage parents to be a part of the entire first experience, other schools ask parents to not be present at all. check with the staff and ask them what they would suggest. unless your child is really crying for you, i would say don't be around. it will be easier for your child to mingle and get settled if you are not around.

Should i bring my nanny on his first week at school? So she can understand my son activity better

if your child's nanny will pick up your child from the school, then it would be a wise thing to do so. otherwise, i don't feel it is required to take the nanny to the school, unless you want the authorities to know her.

My baby has a tendency to hit/scream at me. I'm worried if she goes into childcare at 18m, she will hit and get hit by her friends. How do I overcome this? And how do I ensure my baby doesn't cry too much in school as she's very timid?

I suggest discussing this with her class teachers and principal and find out what is the teachers and school's policy/approach when a students hit each other and what they would do when a child cries excessively. Would they carry the child away, timeout? (Hopefully not) etc.. Then you may consider following the same approach such that there's consistency in how you as parents and the school caregivers would react when she hits. I find that giving my child positive affirmations builds her confidence. Eg: "thank you for picking up your clothes, that's very responsible of you." Or "thank you for telling me that you need a milk instead of crying" or "thank you for putting your cup on the table, that was very helpful." My child was very timid and shy but she became very sociable and independent after going to cc.

What are the basic safety rules parents should go through with our preschooler?

I'm interested to find out too! So far, I only tell my child to hold her teachers' or classmates' hand when they go out for their daily outdoor walk/play and to tell her teachers if any of her classmates hit her (and that she should never hit anyone too.) Not sure if I'm missing out on more!

What are some of the things we can do at home to prep our toddlers for childcare?

We explained childcare simply as school to my child. So we read books about going to school, we talked a lot about going to school and I also trial run the morning routine (waking up early, walking to school) for a week before she actually started cc. The last thing I wanted was for her to be cranky because she had to wake up early or there was a change in routine even before we entered the school premises. During a visit to the cc, I took some photos of the school premises and constantly referred and showed it to them prior to her commencement at the school.

Is there anything we parents can do to make the transition to pre-school as easy and as little traumatic as possible for our LOs?

For about a week prior to starting cc, I brought my child to the school at the same time that she would be going if school has started. This is to get her used to a new morning routine and also to observe other kids going to the school and how the morning temp checks are done. I also brought her to the school in the evening to see how the parents pick the kids up after school. On the first day of school, she was already familiar with the morning routine and minimized any anxiety caused by change of routines. We also read a lot of picture books on going to school and discussed the various activities that she would be doing in school.

My boy gets nightmares at night and reduced appetite and fear of shower now after starting school. It's been almost a week and i am so close to withdrawing him!! He is 2yrs old. It really is not normal right?

It is normal. I've known of kids who fall sick n cry Everyday for 1 mth before they finally get use to school .... do not give up. It is easier for him to get use to his school now then withholding it till primary school
