Zyrtec / Cetirizine for Chronic Urticaria/Hives

Wondering if any mummies have chronic hives prior to conceiving and whether you have been advised to avoid Zyrtec or Cetirizine? My doctor from the polyclinic has advised that it is safe to take it since my condition is chronic and chlorpheniramine has not been effective for my condition. My IVF doctor from KKH mentioned that Zyrtec is not proven to be unsafe but no substantial studies to show it’s safe either. So she prefers I take chlorphenramine but as mentioned, it’s really not working. Feeling kinda torn on how to manage the hives other than Zyrtec. Clarity/loratadine doesn’t work well for me either, and it wasn’t recommended for pregnancy anyway. #advicepls #chronicurticaria #chronichives #hives #urticaria

Have just gone back to speak to gynae again. She explained that cetirizine is safe, but just that it’s a newer medication so therefore there are lesser studies on it. However, so far there are are no adverse outcomes and she says it’s okay to take cetirizine or zyrtec. 😊

My gynae said that Zyrtec was safe to take when I was Covid positive whilst pregnant so the same should apply for hives. Hope u feel better soon

i had this, took piriton throughout 1st tm and baby has no issues. was told by dr that cetirizine is ok too.
