Why do babies love being carried? Is there actually a science to it? Every time My 10month old see me, she drops everything and crawl to me, yearning to be carried.

Being carried calms babies down and makes them feel safe. Scientists in Japan did a study on this and found that babies who are carried by their mothers while walking around, became noticeably more relaxed and if they are crying and squirming, they would stop. When they are close to crying, their heart rate is rapid and when carried, the heart rate slowed down considerably; evidence that they are feeling calmer. I also think that being carried is similar to the feeling they must have felt while they were in the womb -- enveloped in warmth as well as the feeling of being "lifted".
