What are your top 3 rules for parenting pre-teens/teens?

I don't have a teen but when I was a teen, I'm expecting my mom to imagine situations from my own viewpoint, appreciate the little things I do, and to avoid being too strict. I also wanted to know how Ms. Angelu became just like BFFs with her teens because I also wanna be like that when my little girl grew up. :)
