What actually happens if your baby drinks post-alcohol (significant amount, like hangover worthy type) breastmilk?

Depending on how young baby is when considering the effects of alcohol in breastmilk is important. Newborns have very immature livers, so the tiniest amounts of alcohol would be more of a burden on them as they detoxify alcohol at around half the rate of an adult. A study by Mennella & Gerrish in 1998 shows that changes in an infant’s sleep-wake patterning after short-term exposure to small amounts of alcohol in breastmilk; basically infants whose mothers were light drinkers slept less. Imagine the effect if a breastfeeding mother was drinking to the extent of hangover. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2799509/
