Natural lang po sa mga bata na they are constantly testing their limits kung anu-ano ang pwede at ano ang hindi. It's upto us to be firm and make sure that they learn kung ano ang tama at mali. Sa akin, nung unang natutunan ni baby na saktan sarili nya, ay hindi ko sya binibigyan ng any attention. I don't show him I'm worried or scared at lalong hindi ako naggi-give in sa kung ano gusto nya. He soon stopped doing that. I also gave hubby and yaya specific instructions na kapag may gusto si lo na "No", and he starts crying or having tantrums, to NEVER give in. If he behaves properly and asks nicely, perhaps the No can be a Yes, but never once he starts to behave badly. Basically the idea is to reward good behavior, not the bad ones. Now na almost 3yo na sya, madalas pa rin talaga na nagwawala sya kapag hindi nya nakukuha gusto nya, he screams and sometimes hits. That's because they are still learning how to manage their emotions. I tell him calmly "you can cry but you won't get what you want by hitting/ I can't understand what you're saying when you're crying and screaming like that/ Try to ask nicely". Normally it works naman, the only time that it doesn't work ay kapag ako mismo ay sobrang stressed na rin at wala nang pasensya, kaya nagagalit at sinisigawan ko rin sya. So it's not just what we say but equally important is HOW we say it.
