My 4 month old has got a cough with phlegm. Is there any non-medication ways by which I can help him recover faster and is more comfortable? Thanks in advance! I'm totally breastfeeding him by the way.

The following methods worked for me: 1. Vicks Vaporub for infants 2. Dehumidifier in the room 3. Before sleeping, bring baby into a hot steamy shower so the moisture can ease the phlegm 4. Sleep on an elevated wedge, or put a rolled towel below baby mattress, or tummy down (my baby slps tummy down) And of course, more breastmilk means more antibodies and a faster recovery. I would offer more feeds as well to hydrate baby.

Hi Stephanie, the number 2. Is that humidifier or dehumidifier?

Adding to the points mentioned by Stephanie, you can do the cup shape hand patting on baby's back to loosen the phlegm (by placing your baby on your laps). Do it as frequent as possible in a day around 5 to 10 minutes each time. Normally baby will expel the phlegm out through vomiting or through poop. If you do not know how to do the back patting, can ask your baby's PD.
