It will be better to continue using the infant insert as baby at 3 months old will not have strong neck control to hold their heads up and they may sink into the carrier as they are not tall enough, it can risk Sudden Infant Death. Also, baby legs may not be long enough to sit knee to knee nicely. Hyperextended legs can lead to injuries. Left is hyperextended legs, right is correct knee to knee.

If you are talking about not using the infant insert, my boy who is 50 percentile in height is only able to fit without it at 6 months old.
