I've booked a round trip ticket to Davao with my partner. Is it better to explore the city by ourselves or to get city tours from travel agencies?

Personally, I prefer exploring the city without a tour, since I tend to gravitate more towards the lesser known destinations; I'm not a fan of tourist traps. Though, city tours are also good if you really have no idea where to go, and it helps you manage your time better. The good thing about Davao is that some of the taxi drivers are trained as tour guides as well. The driver we had before had a good knowledge of the city, as well as great spots to visit, and he also knows Tagalog as well as English, so we were very happy with him as our driver. :)

It actually depends on your preference. Do you have time to look for itineraries? Want to travel at your own pace? Then maybe touring without an agency will fit you best. If you don't have the luxury of time to go researching or if you want to be more relaxed with plan already laid out for your entire trip then by all means book for a city tour. Budget may also be a factor. If your trip will be a low-cost one, better without an agency.
