Exclusively breastfed babies do not need additional water – breastmilk is 88% water and supplies all the fluids that your baby needs. There are some problems associate with feeding water to exclusive breastfed baby below 6 months old e.g. too much water can lead to a serious condition called oral water intoxication and too much water can interfere with breastfeeding because it fills baby up so that he nurses less. http://kellymom.com/nutrition/starting-solids/baby-water/ You may want to show your family member on the news of the tragic happened where a mother diluted her breastmilk using water to her 10-week-old and cause water intoxication. http://ph.theasianparent.com/baby-dies-after-drinking-breastmilk-mixed-with-water/

Breastfeed babies do not need water to supplement their feeds as compared to formula fed babies as breastmilk is 80% water. Also, it is not advisable to give water to 6 months and below as their livers are not fully developed yet and puts them at risk of diarrhoea and malnutrition. http://www.who.int/features/qa/breastfeeding/en/

Di na kailangan mag bigay ng tubig sa baby kung breastfeeding siya kasi kumpleto na yung breastmilk. Ang recommended na paininumin ng water si baby is 6months kapag kumakain na siya. Breastfeeding or formula man yan wag magbibigay ng water kapag under 6months old

giving water in small amount is not a problem. especially when babies are mixed fed or formula fed, its advisable to give water in small amount. exclusively breast fed babies don't need water.
