I'm Malay and we usually speak switch between English and malay at home. However, because of where I live the other kids in my daughters preschool are mostly chinese. The preschool only has English and Mandarin speaking teachers, and my daughter comes home speaking Mandarin sometimes. I'm worried that there will be times when she wants something and I won't be able to understand her needs. Any suggestions how I should deal with this?

It's good for children to pick up many languages. Instead of viewing it as a problem, perhaps you could learn together with her and ask her to teach you what the Mandarin words mean? Otherwise, you can still ask her in Malay or English to prompt a reply in that language if she has a need which she wants to express.
