huh, I don't quite agree with your agent though. isnt it a bit similar with life insurance? that we are young and unlikely to pass away, does that mean it's unnecessary? end of the day, insurance is very subjective and up to individual tolerance of risk. if you prefer to have some financial security for when things goes south (however do note that maternity covers only limited situations), then I'll say go for it. as for companies, I think plans now are generally quite competitive (each with have one strong point against competitors but I don't think there is a clearcut winner in terms of coverage/benefits), maybe it's more impt to find a good agent that you are comfortable with.
Check your current life insurance; many already cover maternity complications to both moms and child. I didn't get on my first, five yrs ago. Yes, normally they cover similar across brands; so compare costs. However I believe most, if not all, have around 9mos waiting time. Not sure if any would offer now. Best to canvass (I normally Google "best xxxx in Singapore") and inquire online, if your FA doesn't seem to be keen on you getting this
the purpose of the insurance is to provide cover for your baby without any underwriting needed. maternity insurance is hardly enough or useful for the mother, mostly unclaimable as the list of claims is for very serious items.
I don't know which policy is best, but suggest you buy the moment you turn 13 weeks, so if any genetic anomalies detected after that, at least you can get some financial support
Personally I think it’s important to get coverage. With maternity insurance it covers the baby from birth.
