Starting early is essential in building this habit and love for reading. Even if it's just for 5mins with them on your lap reading, it helps too! We let our daughter choose the books she wants to read, and read them with her. Now, she readily picks our her fave books and asks to be read :D Being a role model makes a difference too - so keep those gadgets away during reading.

It is very important for a child to get into a habit of reading, that's why it is good to introduce them to reading at a very young age. Not only reading books to your would make a difference, but let your child watch you reading. If your child is too young, don't force him to read. Let him enjoy the activity and not feel it as a punishment. :)

Start reading to them from the beginning! :) read books from all sorts of genres to them, fiction, non fiction, etc. Bring them on regular trips to the library where they can pick out their own books. You can search online for reading activities that you can do with your kids at home to further extend their interest.

You can make them start with something simple and easy to read books. A plus if its a story telling book. Try to give them few questions which they have to discover after reading the book. Make them curious about few topics by sharing interesting stories

You could start with reading them a book which you love. They'll see your enthusiasm and like it too. Take some time off every week for reading with your kids.
