Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding timing

I have been told by a lactation consultant that I should nurse my 1+month baby for 20 minutes on one breast before switching to the other breast for 10 minutes. Does anyone follow this and does it work for you? Or can you please share how long do you usually nurse for on each breast? When I google, the results mostly advise that we let baby decide and control the timing of how long he wants to feed though. #1stimemom

Totally on baby’s demand. Mine nurse less then 5 min. But her weight gain, wet diaper/soil count are all normal and good. So I wouldn’t worry much. I know most of them, especially newborn nurse more than 20 min and continues latching (mostly for comfort. So it depends on baby. Just watch out for baby cues. Any sign of dehydration, wet diaper count and weight gain. 👌
