SINGLE MOM and CHILD SUPPORT

I finally decided to end a toxic and abusive relationship. All the qualified abused he already got a record. Got to the point to report it to the brgy so that my kids will be financially supported still by their dad. My ex doesn't have any job and only relies on her mothers remittances abroad. Now his mother says before in their chat not to worry if I ask for child support since he doesn't have a job. So my ex doesn't worry looking for a job because he is fully supported by her mother. Anyone can suggest something what I action I could possibly do?? Thank you..
