How is the life of an unmarried pregnant woman in India?

it's very difficult and still viewed as taboo. it will depend on how strong the woman is and how cooperative her family is. also it will also depend on her to be a good provider for her child and how her view toward the baby is....the unborn baby is still a living person. it's not born with any identity or tags as to who is the child's father. it's still the mothers. if the father is cowardly and irresponsible, then why should the mother and unborn child suffer it's consequences. this should be accepted and understood by the mother specifically. if she feels that the child is a burden or the society will snub her, then she should understand that the society will not be there each day to help her raise the child nor will help her feed him. the child will not understand society norms. it only understands love...and that potential to show love is bestowed on the mother. so it's all depends on the outlook...

Indian society is yet to accept an unmarried pregnant woman with open arms and without getting judgmental. The woman will be seen as a criminal, a "characterless woman" which is sad but a bitter truth. Her own parents wouldn't support her. The society will be wary of her. May be she will have some support but the acceptance will not be there. A celebrity like Neena Gupta wasn't spared either!
