Pre & Post Natal Massages

GETTING YOUR BODY BACK THE TRADITIONAL WAY Here’s an easy way to get back in shape, thanks to the traditional post natal massage. Not just a way to lose the pregnancy flab, the traditional post natal massage also helps restore a new mother’s strength and health. After undergoing an arduous nine months culminating to strenuous labour, any new mother’s physical resources would be drained and in need of serious nurturing and replenishing. The therapy aims to put the ‘loosened’ bones into place, clean out ‘dirty’ blood left inside the body and help hasten the healing of wounds. THE PROCESS The Confinement massage involves pressing on the nerves to ‘get rid of the wind’ which, it’s believed, weakens the body especially after child birth. Massage also improves blood circulation and helps the body recover from the trauma of birth. A special massage concoction for women in confinement is made from Lemongrass & Ginger which are blend in Olive oil over slow fire for about 8 hours. During the confinement massage, the woman is massaged from head to toe. There are a variety of substances and herbal mixtures use to do the massage over the different parts of the body “Param” is rubbed on the hands, legs and thighs, to remove wind and give warmth and energy. On the other hand, “Tepel” or “Tamarind” is massaged into the abdomens to remove the dirty blood and flatten the tummy. All this applications promote good blood circulation, help reduce water retention and the size and flabbiness of the tummy. “Pilis” is then rubbed onto the mother’s forehead in the belief that this promote good eyesight and prevent headaches. The post natal massage is followed by the binding procedure. However, a 4 panel abdominal is ‘highly’ recommended to be used instead and it is believed to ‘tighten the protruding veins’, putting the bones back in their proper position and flatten the tummy. Because it is tightly wrapped around the tummy, this is also believed to decreased appetite, which eventually leads to weight loss. A minimum wearing of Eight hours and for One week is required before results can be seen. (Result may be vary for individuals) For women who’ve had natural / normal delivery, massage can start as soon as they are home. Those who’ve had Caesarean should wait for Two weeks for the stitches to heal before massage can be done. Massage technique for Caesarean is slightly different from Natural / Normal delivery. ACCOMPANYING TREATMENTS As for the Javanese Traditional confinement, mothers are encouraged to drink herbal concoctions such as Jamu, Ubat Periok & Lam Kunyit. These drinks helped to restore the mother’s strength, energy and also strengthen her body in the event of future pregnancies. AND FOR YOUR LITTLE ONES….
