Dream feeding is essentially just picking up your baby to feed him when he is still sleepy and can fall back asleep very fast when he is done with the bottle. Why dreamfeed? Dreamfeeds allow parents to have a longer stretch of sleep. Because babies are only capable of having 1 long sleep in 24 hrs we want to programme that sleep to be from 11pm-7am. How to dreamfeed? So for example, you set your baby down to sleep at 7pm, you will dreamfeed him at 11pm, then he sleeps till 7am. After 1 week of doing so, you reduce his feeds to 3/4 of the usual feed at 10.30pm and then to 1/2 of usual feed the next week at 10pm. Once you have a baby who sleeps through from 7-7 then you can drop the dreamfeeds completely. There you have it, a baby that sleeps through the night! If baby doesn't feed, try to touch his face and cheeks and also stimulate the suckling reflex by putting the bottle on his lips. Or you could try stretching his arms to wake him a little.

dream feeding is when you awaken the baby to encourage her to take in a feed in an effort to sleep longer, especially in the night. Try tickling your baby's feet or rubbing your nipple on her cheek or mouth to get her to suckle. As long as there is a 2-3 hrs gap between feeds, you need not wake her
