Did you avoid alcohol when you were trying to conceive?

I’m a big drinker and this wasn’t totally a planned pregnancy. My partner and I (we’re not married) talked about maybe trying to have kids (or rather to stop avoiding it) because we’re getting older (38) and the longer we wait, the riskier it gets. So we pulled the goalie about 3-4 months ago. Didn’t even start on folic acid because we were not totally convinced it will happen. Long story short, we were recently on a 3-week vacation, drank a fair amount and one night even partied so hard, we were hungover next day. A week later (still on vacation and by then I was a week late), found out we were pregnant. Whoops. Had our 6th week scan and everything seemed fine. But again, we’re not out of the woods yet and I think it’s more because of our age and less the drinking (I think & hope). 🤞🏽
