Salt Baby's kidneys can't cope with salt yet and it is best no to encourage a liking for it. Do not blend adult ready meals for baby. Ready meals contain high levels of salt. Sugar Try sweetening desserts with mashed banana. Artificial sweetener Diet drinks or squashes containing artificial sweeteners are not suitable for babies. They are not nutritious and can encourage a sweet tooth. Fish (Shark, swordfish, tilefish, king mackerel and marlin) They may contain traces of mercury. Tea or Coffee The tannin in tea may prevent baby from absorbing iron in his food properly. Any caffeinated drink is unsuitable for babies. Low-fat food Always offer your baby the full-fat versions. Babies need the calories.
