It accounts for about 10% of pregnancies worldwide. It usually develops after 20 weeks of pregnancy or soon after delivery. http://www.tommys.org/page.aspx?pid=385 My friend who delivered in November had preeclampsia just before she delivered; she was totally find even before her last appointment with the gynae. Hence she had to go through a c-section with general anaesthesia. Vaginal delivery is possible but may be too strenuous for her. She has been on medication ever since but will recover soon according to her gynae. I would say it's not as common as Gestational Diabetes.
