5 months baby Sleeping A Lot During Day

My 5 months old son sleeps a lot during the day(8 hours straight) and takes small naps at night till 6 am. His pediatrician suggested to wake him up during the day so that he would sleep at night, every time I'm waking my baby up he looks upset, i wake him up to play so that he gets tired. Now he never achieved getting 14 hours of sleep (avg hours for 5 months old), he gets only 10 hours. Am i making my baby awake too much? Advice on average playtime per day. Ps : I do the feed play feed sleep(breastfed) with my son. Thank you
