To all AUsome Parents here… Power hugs 🤗 We are doing a great job! 👍 https://www.facebook.com/102392444489765/posts/782058393189830/?d=n AUsome Kids are truly AUmazing! 🧩 When Dwayne was diagnosed with ASD, we were very anxious about a lot of things. But, at the same time he developed and surprised us with so unique abilities. Truly, Autism is not a disability, it’s a different ability. Autism Consciousness Week is celebrated every third week of January in accordance with Proclamation 711 of 1996. With the theme : " NURTURING PUBLIC-PRIVATE ALLIANCES TOWARDS AN AUTISM-OK PHILIPPINES". WHO defines Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) as a group of complex brain development disorders wherein an individual experiences difficulty in communicating, socializing, and adapting to their environment. 1 in 100 Filipinos are on the autism spectrum. Which is why, with the increasing prevalence of autism in the Philippines, we must work together towards inclusivity, awareness, and participation. When we promote a safe environment for persons with autism, we enable them to live dignified, productive, and independent lives. References: [1] world Health Organization. (2019, April 1). It was not very surprising because he must have manifested from his father. Yes, daddy Darwin has cleft lip and palate when he was born, and successfully done with surgery when he was younger. We know that the preparation for the early part of your journey can be very challenging. Feeding, specifically breastfeeding might be the main concern. Good thing, we know this ahead of time, so we can prepare ourselves and have a good support system. I know and believe I can breastfeed! 🤱 And for that I am very much thankful to the mommies and support groups that i turned to with this situation. When Darrie was born, I was grateful that he only has unilateral cleft lip. The surgery can be easily done. 🙏🏻 It will take few months or a year before our baby will have a corrective surgery. We won’t rush things, as long as our baby is healthy, gaining weight appropriately, and of course, a well loved and happy little one, it is more than enough. There will be more challenges to think about along the way, but it will be a journey full of snuggles, coos and love, just like any other. For love, keep the love alive —- we are D’Dars family of Five! 💪🏻🖐🏻 , , , Note: An OG tube (Oragastric) was attached to his mouth for feeding and/or medical administration. Working diagnosis: Maternal condition UTI and Pneumonia.
