I gave birth to my first and 2nd born at NUH. Honestly the medical check ups apart from the scans I feel is a waste of time. Unless you have things to ask the doctor, want to take MC or you are going to take report for earlier scans. Otherwise now, at my 3rd pregnancy If I can skip, I skip it 🤣 Seriously, the queues are long, appointment if at 9am, you won't see doctor until at least 9.30am or even 10.30am onwards. Go inside, doc ask "how are u?" OK listen to heart beat. Nothing wrong. OK u can go home. =.= what a hassle travelling from home and early in the morning just for this. For my first born, it was hard. Public doctor. They often miss out giving me the dates for check up. At week 38 onwards, I was told to have a final scan but did not receive any appointment dates. I had to call in and ask for it. I was already week 39+ 6 day by the time I went to the appointment. And the doctor said the baby was 3.8kg already inside. I asked to be induced because it's obvious I couldn't give birth to such a big baby and not to mention it was my first???! I was dilated at 1.5cm - 2cm then. The female indian doctor said "no. I can't induce you. Because if you're going for natural delivery, you have to wait for it to come naturally." what sh*t is this? (I think they just want earn money la because if emergency C section costs more) So the only thing she could do is a "membrane sweep" and she don't allow me to stay in the hospital. She asked me to go home after the sweep. She said it would be normal for me to feel uncomfortable, and normal to see spotting. But I've felt uncomfortable ever since the membrane sweep and from 4pm to night 11pm I kept having regular contractions. I didn't knew I was in labor already. (first time right?) When me and my husband went back to the hospital later that night, the doctors kept coming in and ask me if I want Epidural. I was quite against it. But they kept coming in and ask for like 3 to 4 times when I rejected. End up I say OK. The doctor that injected the epidural, I don't think he's trained enough. The first injection, I said my left side of my entire hip to leg pain. It was a pain you can never imagine. Then he say "shouldn't be pain". So he took out the needle from my back and then say he going to find another spine to TRY AGAIN. this time, he found another spine and my entire right side was pain. He say no choice already please bear with it and he just poke the entire needle inside. I cried like hell. During labor, my son didn't want to come out. Different nurses and doctor kept coming in and out of the room throughout and there's even one point of time, they said I was ready for labor, prepared everything, put my leg up, then end up, the doctor hands were inside me and there's another nurse/doctor came in and said something and end up that doctor who was delivering halfway for me, took out the hands, gloves and went out. Then that nurse who came in took over but she had to do the hand sanitising, wearing gloves, etc etc. And my legs was just spread open like museum like that. End up when she poke in again and then said "oh you're not ready for labor" then PUT MY LEGS DOWN AND THEN ASK ME TO WAIT WHEN I HAVE MORE CONTRACTIONS. like, they are not even experienced? So, on and off, blablabla, finally, they tried popping my water to induce labor. Then halfway they said my baby was facing the wrong way and one of the doc or nurse (at this point I don't even know who is who already because so many people have been coming in and out) she put her hand inside my womb and tried to TURN the baby head to the right direction. During labor, suddenly I was being introduced to INTERNS COMING IN to LEARN????? THE WHOLE FRIGGIN ROOM HAVE LIKE MORE THAN 8 people!!!! My husband whom is supposed to be next to me because want to hold hand, end up because of difficult labor one of the doctor said might have to use the kiwi vacuum. But said there are risk etc blah blah blah. Then another 3 specialist come in and wait. They are there because in case the baby have any complications due to the vacuum they are there to help. And end up my husband was pushed and pushed to a place I cannot even see him. When my baby was finally born, he was 4kg+ and I did it naturally FIRST BORN SOMEMORE can you imagine if I wasn't given the membrane sweep option? During the stay in the hospital, shared room with like 5 or 6 other people. Couldn't even sleep because every 10, 20 mins people would be coming in to disturb. Take blood pressure, etc etc. And the nurse couldn't even help me to stabilise my baby. He kept crying. Then the nurse kept bringing my baby to me and said he wants milk. HELLO I JUST GIVE BIRTH I NO MILK YET LA. Food tastes horrible also. For my 2nd born I told my husband we can go back NUH but I want a private doctor and private room this time. And everything was cool. Food was OK too. Dr. Sarah was amazing at her work. Though, I didn't had any epidural this time. Nothing. Just laughing gas. They didn't even had time to slice below and I ended up with a tear. But all was good. Moral of the story, with money spent, your experience will be better lol.
