This is an unfair question as each new dads’ situation is different. New dads want to accommodate and participate to the parenting as much as possible; however, social constructs such as paternity leave have not been updated to truly reflect the dad’s desire to have as much time with the newborn as possible. Society’s antiquated notion of the man as the primary breadwinner has often times caused a strain in the new father-mother dynamic as it has caused undue resentment given free time available. New dads, I believe, given the wealth of information, in addition to the ever-shifting perceptions on fatherhood responsibilities, want to “add value” as much as they can so they can Ensure that new born parenting is a partnership.
