Developmentally, children aged less than 5 are not really expected to be able to recognise letters and to read. Emphasis instead should be placed on oral language development, learning to understand stories read to them and learning to play. Unfortunately, our local preschools are very academically oriented and focus much too early on literacy. As your child is in nursery, I would not be too worried right now if she is not able to recognise letters or learn phonics. Letters have no meaning to children this young. I would only be concerned if letter recognition and phonics learning is still an issue towards the end of K1.
