When does ur baby speak his first word

Hi mummies. My bb just came back from his 1yr devepopment check at polyclinic. Doc asked if he has spoke his first word e.g. papa or mama specifically to us. We said no but he babbles & understands. Doc says usually first word at 12 mth. Feeling worried now. I read that boys are more likely to start speaking a little later than girls . May i know to all the boys mummies, when does ur bb said their first word meaningfully? (Not babbling)

Hello! My baby boy just turned one, he started saying papa mama at around 10mo - but I used to an early childhood educator so I've been very intentional and spend a lot of time with him. Currently he is able to recognise about 20 words by pointing, and able to say papa, mama, bear and duck (favourite animal) 🤣 These are my tips on getting him to speak!! 1. Talk to your baby a lot!! And I mean A LOT and about anything! I find the easiest way is to just talk through whatever you are doing! So I say things like "let's go to the kitchen and open the fridge! Oh my goodness, can you see what's in the fridge? Let's see what ingredients mama can use today! Can you tell mama if you want blueberries or yogurt? You want yogurt? Ok! Mama will take the yogurt. Let's put the yogurt in a bowl! Let's count how many scoops! Mama put one, two, three! Ok mama is going to close the lid" etcetc haha you get the point! 2. Reinforce and validate whenever they get pointing or babbling right! When you ask "where's mama" and he gets it right, clap and make a big deal every single time. Eventually he just kind of picked up the words 🙏 all the best mama and remember that every child develops at their pace 🌟

My MIL also takes care of my baby when I do have to occasionally go to office! We have a good relationship so hubby and I taught her along the way how to play and teach baby 🙏 she's gotten a lot better and has taught baby many new words and actions now too. Can try if your MIL is receptive!!
