Is it advisable to use sunblock on babies? What brands do you recommend?

Yes, it is safe to use sunblock for babies although I don't use one for my babies as I really don't expose them to direct sunlight. Some of the safe sunblock brands recommended for babies are Aveeno baby with SPF 50, California baby SPF 30+, Tru Kid PSF 30+.
