I've read that aromatherapy and essential oils can be used for many aspects of health, postpartum as well for healing, regulation of mood and hormones and even breast milk production. A friend of mine made her own "soothing pads" to help with the pain and inflammation after birth, as per her doula's advice. She added two drops each of witch hazel, lavender and aloe gel to her maxi pads and this went a long way in terms of soothing, healing and inflammation immediately after birth. I've also read that clary sage is often used to start production of breastmilk, apply to the insides of ankles or bottom of your feet.
