Is 6mg of folic acid too much?

Doc has prescribed me 5mg of folic acid before I started IVF and I take about 0.8mg separately with my b-complex. Now pregnant and still taking the same amount. Is it too much and does it really cause autism in babies? I'm now 5 weeks and a little worried and Google is not helping :( #1stimemom #pleasehelp

Hey there, I like articles from NHS as they’re pretty reliable: https://www.nhs.uk/pregnancy/keeping-well/vitamins-supplements-and-nutrition/ After having read some of the research, latest evidence tend to suggest that folic acid levels is not the only cause for autism. I remember my gynae telling me that if I already take foods high in folic acid, I needn’t take a pill specifically for folic acid. The list of foods can be found here: https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/foods-high-in-folate-folic-acid#15.-Fortified-grains I guess the thing is perhaps you should consult your gynae and ask if, with your medical history, and diet, it’s okay to just eat nutritious foods. This is just a suggestion and I am by no means prescribing a correct method. Just sharing what I experienced.

honestly speaking, birth defects are worse than having autism. folic acid is supposed to help the growth and deter Spina bifida and autism is usually due to genetics (genetics not = hereditary, don't be mistaken). if you're worried, suggest to ring up your gynae and seek for professional advice.
