Starting Solid food if baby can’t sit upright

Hi. My baby is now 6 months old. Whenever we put him in sitting position unassisted, he will fall to the front/side. Wondering if we can start spoon feed him purees or rice cereal? Is it safe? #FTM #pleasehelp
