baby is in a lot of pain for colic. he is 5 months old. i have avoided giving gripe water till now, but should i just go ahead and give it? can't see him cry so much

There's little scientific evidence that says it works, but it still should be safe to use. Use a brand that's alcohol- and sucrose-free, and watch out for vegetable carbon (charcoal) - it may cause constipation. Is your baby on formula? Another thing you could do is switch to one that doesn't contain cow's milk or one that has a hypoallergenic formula, but this one can be more expensive. You can also do baby massage. With baby on his back, hold knees and feet together and slowly press knees up toward the abdomen. Then rotate his hips to help get the gas out.

colicaid drops or colimex syrup. keep feeding warm water with spoon and make him sleep on his tummy for few minutes on and off. please avoid Gripe water.
